Spouse work visa

Studying or working in Canada allows the study or work visa holder to apply for a work visa for their spouse and study visa for their dependent children.

The legal spouse of a person with a Canadian master’s permit or work permit can apply for an Open Work Permit visa. Now, the application can be sent simultaneously with the main applicant’s file or after receiving the main applicant’s visa.

Spouse work visa has many benefits, including the following:

A spouse can work for any employer for any number of hours in Canada

There is no need to have a job offer and the employer will not need an LMIA

Working spouse covers a significant part of living and education expenses in Canada

Two important points in the officer’s decision are:

  • Demonstrating the ability to meet living expenses in Canada for the main applicant and his/her companions
  • Showing strong attachments to the country of origin to convince the officer to return after completing the course of study or work

The validity period of the spouse’s open work permit is proportional to the validity of the master’s permit or work permit of the main applicant.
